How to create a festive autumn centerpiece
Family Pathways Thrift Stores staff and volunteers are some pretty talented folks! Many enjoy working with Family Pathways Thrift Stores because they are thrifters themselves who love to spot a diamond in the rough. We have some amazing crafters and DIY-ers who can stroll the aisles and find their next cool project.
Denise from the Hinckley store used some thrift store finds to create simple, adorable autumn centerpiece of a wooden box decorated with fabric pumpkins, fall flowers and ribbon.
Denise started with some fiberfill, Styrofoam craft balls, raffia and sweaters.
First, select a portion of the sweater with the colors or designs that you would like to use for your fabric pumpkins. Use the sleeve or cut a square from the sweater. Take a portion of the fiberfill and gather it into a ball, placing it in the center of the fabric. Use the raffia to tie up the corners of the pumpkins and create a stem.
Styrofoam craft balls can also be used instead of fiberfill. Again, use the raffia to tie the corners of the fabric and wrap around the fabric to make a stem.
Using a glue gun, attach colored leaves or other decorative items to enhance the pumpkins.
Denise scored a wooden tool box, and using ribbon, flowers and other embellishments, created a perfectly charming autumn centerpiece.
